The University of Bacau was founded in 1961 and it is an important constituent part of the Romanian educational system, nationally acknowledged for the quality of its academic and research activity. The University trains its students in fundamental domains and disciplines and ensures appropriate qualifications in B.A. The improvement of the graduates’ professional and research training is also achieved through graduate studies, doctoral studies, short-term graduate studies, continuing education course life-long learning, post-graduate studies of specialization, and academic programmes of professional conversion. In addition to the above-mentioned programmes, the students of the University of Bacau can attend the courses of the Pre-service and In-service Teacher Training Department; they can obtain the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) which is the world’s leading end-user computer skills certification programme; they can also attend the academic Cisco Networking Academy programme, a programme adopted by more than 50 countries.

The University has 5 faculties: The Faculty of Engineering, The Faculty of Letters, The Faculty of Sciences, The Faculty of Economic Sciences and The Faculty of Motion, Sports and Health Sciences.

At the level of the academic year 2008-2009, the University of Bacau collaborates with 44 European universities within the framework of the SOCRATES Programme and 31 other agreements have been signed with other universities from abroad.

Role in the project: 
  • Attending the project meetings for exchange of experience and information and coordination of the project activities;
  • Participating and contributing to the common activities of the project by implementing the local network and skills:
    • the survey of the linguistic situation (text and video-dvd);
    • the language festival;
    • cooperating in the elaboration of a “charter” of multilingual local policy;
    • the creation of a web site which offers multiple opportunities for activity, exchange, and for communication within the consortium
  • Working on optional activities of the project.
    • creating (and playing) multilingual plays;
    • creating and promoting web radios within the consortium;
    • work on a methodology module which suggests pathways for the writing of a linguistic autobiography
