King’s College London is one of England’s oldest and most prestigious university institutions. Founded in 1829, King’s is a multi-faculty research-led university college based in the heart of London with over 19,700 students, of whom more than 6,200 are postgraduates. It is ranked as one of the world’s top 25 universities.
The College offers an intellectually rigorous environment supported by welcoming and caring traditions. King’s has played a major role in many of the advances that have shaped modern life, such as the discovery of the structure of DNA.
King's first entered the field of education in 1890 and was one of the earliest institutions to do so among British universities. The Department of Education & Professional Studies is among the country's three highest-rated education departments for the proportion of 3* and 4* rated outputs in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). Research conducted in the department informs all our taught programmes and has contributed to improving teaching and professional practice, debates on public policy and addresses the concerns of professional communities. Fundamental to our activities is a strong and dynamic research culture with over 60 academic staff including 17 Professors.
